Dried Apple Slices

I know, I know...apples are for fall, not January, but I had a lot of them. (In case you haven't noticed, there is a recurring theme to my last few posts. I had a lot of leftovers. I bought just a few too many ingredients for certain recipes...like apples.) So, I'm using them up instead of being wasteful.

Yesterday, I made dried apple slices. My girls love them, but they are so expensive, I don't often buy them from the grocery store.

 Step One

Core the apples with an Apple Corer.

Step Two

Peel the apples, if you want... Otherwise, leave the skin on, it's good for you anyway! I like to leave the skin on.

Step Three

Slice the apples using a food processor or do it by hand, if necessary. My handy, dandy new food processor went back to work slicing apples. (This thing is really getting a workout at my house!) It has a really great slicing blade, that saved mountains of time in preparing the apples.

Step Four

Dip the apple slices into a dish of lemon juice to prevent browning.

Step Five

Mix 1/2 cup white sugar and 2 tablespoons cinnamon in a small dish.

Step Six

Dip the apple slices into the cinnamon sugar mixture.

Step Seven

Arrange the apple slices on dehydrator trays.

Step Eight

Close the lid on your dehydrator. Turn on and walk away for 20 to 24 hours.
